Aural Exciter Plugin?

Discussion in 'Tracking / Mixing / Editing' started by AumStudioBrian, Dec 6, 2004.

  1. Hello,

I've heard some GREAT things about the Aphex Aural Exciter. Does anyone know if there is a plugin of this product? I've heard a rumor there is an Arual Exciter plugin, but I have had no luck finding one. If not, is there a plugin that you reccomend that gets this job done? I'm currently using Waves LINMB and L2 on my Master track, but its just not quite getting the job done. Suggestions other than the Aural Exciter?

Try the X-Cita plugin from Elogoxa. It can be found on my free plugin page in the 'special' section. BBE also makes one. I must say that you probably aren't going to like the sound of any of these across your master bus... at least not for long.

  3. Thanks for the recomendation, though I'm curious of what you meant in the quoted sentance?

Most of the time, when people first try an exciter across a mix, they think it sounds really cool. Then, they come back, sometimes the next day, sometimes later and say, "this sounds like sh*t." That was my experience with the BBE Sonic Maximizer.

These things were designed for use primarily on narrow guage tape formats like 1/4" 8 track and 1/2" 16 track as well as cassette multitracks in the 80's and really don't have any application in modern digital recording where you are usually trying to warm and smooth things out not make them edgier and brighter ... That's probably why you're having a hard time finding a plug in ...
