I don't recommend bass traps. Once you trap them, you'll have to feed them and take care of them and if you don't, the SPCA will get on your back. Besides, where are you going to stick all of that extra-bass? You've already got too much in your closets. You might have to call in a sheriff to have it removed?

You might want to make your room smaller in that way it will have less bass. A lower calorie diet might also help?

What are your traps made of?

In a room that size, you're not going to just need a few traps, you're going to need a LOT of absorption.

My main mix room is not much bigger and it's about the deadest room I've ever been in (quiet too...you can hear your heart beating...)

    I sent you pics of a rack?? Not to say I didn't - I just don't recall.

If the adams are on either side of the rack, it could be resonating. Are you saying they *are* there or you *could* put them there. If they are - move them.

I have a large (very large) wooden rack (48 spaces - 24 in two rows) but it stays behind me in the control room and when filled, does a nice job of acting as a bit of diffusion.

When empty - it resonates like mad.

I may be moving temporarily into a a rather large room. Is there any budget way to absorb and deflect?
I have considered just buying a room kit, but i figure I might as well apply some of the building skills I have and make up some traps and absorbers that I can rest on the walls.

I plan on taking a shot at making mixing a career, so I dont want to be waisting valuable learning time in a room where every thing is cluttered and exaggerated.

This would best be discussed in the Acoustics forum where the real experts on room acoustics can weigh in, but a good, budget way of doing this is with bookshelves full of books.

The bookshelves - check out craigslist. They pop up in the free section from time to time.

The books, go to a library or used book store and at the very least, you can offer to buy all of their $1 books or take the old books off the library's hands. I've done this with a local bookstore and offered them $100 for all of their $1 books. I got about 250+ books for $100. They were happy to have the space on their shelves and get rid of some books that had 10 years of dust on them.

Yeah, Jeremy, but you neglected to mention the smell!

    Oh... and the silverfish...
    Nasty buggers!

Com'on, it's going in a recording studio. The smell will be covered up by the stench of stale beer and hemp and all of the silverfish will get high off of residual smoke and die off looking for Twinkies.

    haha
Where I live now, I have my girlfriends HUGE desk behind me. which is a god send.
great Idea with the book shelfs. I figured I would try to add as much clutter to the room as I can.
But yea, I will take my questions to the proper forum next time.

And just for the record, There is never any beer in my mini studio space, or do I smoke by it.
Cut me some slack. I am far to new to the game to fall into a stereotype... yet.
