im looking for a good sampler to use primarily on drums. a friend of mine had the akai z8 rack and his drums sound as live as anything but I still want advice before going out and spending 1,500$. any ideas or anything new out there?

Take this for what it's worth, but IMO, you're better off going software. Much easier to edit your samples, save presets/kits in a jiffy, less clutter, less data dumping back and forth, etc...

For that, I'd recommend Native Instruments 'Battery' or 'Kontakt'. Both are samplers, though the former is designed mostly for drums, with an MPC style interface and a great built-in editor. The latter is more of a traditional sampler but some people prefer it as an all-purpose sample playback module, for multi-instuments, drums, atmospheres, etc...

I have both Battery and Kontakt but now prefer using Kontakt for everything, drums included. Works great with ProTools, Ableton Live, Logic, etc.

If you really are in favor of hardware, might want to look into the new AKAI MPC1000 ($850)

    That's my opinion...

thanks for replying bro... but yeah, i was thinking of something along those lines that would definitely not give any problems with pro tools. since i don't want to use my computer for sampling anymore(garritan always gives me problems with a g4 512ram 1gb processor and full buffer playback settings)ill maybe look into the hardware. but you make a good point about the software and editing, ill look into both and then see what's best. thanks a lot
