Ok, so this is sorta OT but I'd like to know what other people are running.
Here's what I'd like to know... no matter how fast/slow your system is please let us know the following information:

    1. Motherboard
    2. Processor type/speed
    3. memory
    4. hard drive(s) size, specs (ie. Ultra33, Ultra 66, etc.)
    5. Operating system
    6. Main recording software (i.e. Cakewalk, n-Tracks, CEP, etc.)
    7. Make a new 44,100 16 bit stereo file, create 10 minutes of silence and SAVE it as a .wav file. Tell us how long it took to save.

    Dual AMD 1800+ (1.53MHz)
    2 / 512 Mb 2100 ECC registered DDR
    2 / 80 Gigabyte Western Digital ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drives (one removable)
formatted NTFS. Running Windows XP Pro and Cubase VST 5.1 / as a dedicated DAW. No other functions or programs. No Internet, no modem. Just Windows, Power DVD, IN CD, Adobe Acrobat reader (for the Cubase manual) and Cubase installed….. runs a 16 track song with eq's comps verbs and mastering at 10% CPU load. I'm still learning the software (computard!) and I haven't learned how to erase / delete files yet so I don't want to run the test. As soon as I get to learn the deletes I'll run the test and edit this post with the results …… Fats

alrighty, hold onto your hats gearheads...

gigabyte k7 motherboard (don't remember which one, but stay away from it...) with the now infamous kt133 via chipset... uh-huh...

Athlon 1ghz (geeze, 1ghz used to seem so fast...) with the incredible 100fsb yeah, baby...

Ram- kingston 256 pc133... but wait there's more! 128 stick of something pc133, and another 128 pc133 even more generic... yep, a deffinate no-no... works, though...

Matrox 30gig ata100 partitioned in two for os/apps (14 gigs) and the rest as aux storage...

Matrox 40gig drive for all of my fine audio...

The cheapest case I could afford

    A 350 watt p/s just this side of no-name...

I can't remember which cd-rw drive I have, but don't buy it either... no cd text support. does a good job as long as everything is done at 1x write... 2x will usually work but I'm into consistency and not coasters...

    Asus cd-rom (good little drive...)

Delta 44 (for personal recording it does all I need it to)

Midisport 4x4 (works for me, but what I do with midi is pretty rudamentary from most folks standpoint)

Windows 98se (upgrade even, not even a clean install...)

Been running flawlessly (after many initial problems) for three years now...

    Top that you suckers...

Wait a gosh darn minute here.....those who did the test....you did a TEN MINUTE...STEREO TRACK...RECORDED SILENCE FOR TEN MINUTES...AND IT TOOK LESS THAN A MINUTE? Or did you just add silence? I need to know as my system is optimized to the friggen gills and hell and beyond.....
I need to know exactly what you did and if you did what I did...record enabled a stereo track and pressed record for 10 minutes...set the markers and did a stereo interleaved export audio bounce? Is this not what the test was?

Ok, something's wrong here. I open a new project, arm 1 stereo track, Totally waste 10 minutes recording nothing(lol), export to a stereo .wav file. I end up with "Silence Test.wav" which is 103,412kb about 18 seconds later. Am I doing this right?

    Oh yeah...

that's what i did,... went into my project setup in cubase switched it to 16 bit. recorded 10 minutes of audio so you see grey, with my rca inputs, set markers to begining and end, exported a stereo interleaved file at 16 bit as a wave file

    chris perra

  17. Same here. Recorded 10min stereo track with project set as 16/44.1 then exported it stereo interleaved and it took 23 seconds.

I did not have any master effects, including the dithering, on.

    Cheers.

I was beginning to think I was reaaalllllly dumb or something here! lmao!
