i am about to purchase a new imac for my home studio and i was wanting to know if it will affect processing speed to have a larger display with a more advanced video card. and also just any other advice on recording with imacs.

It will only speed up the graphics.

Get as much Ram as you can afford, but don't buy RAM from Apple.

Add a 7200rpm firewire drive dedicated to audio and sample libraries.

i think i have decided to bite the bullet and get a mac pro. so you say that i should get extra ram from apple? because of cost or quality? the hard drive on it already has a 7200rpm drive.

No buy your RAM from Crucial Technology, waay cheaper than Apple.
