I have an Asus laptop windows 7 8GB ram, 500GB HDD and intel pentium dual core 2.20GHz Processor. I have been using this laptop with cubase 7 upgraded from 6 without problem. However a few times i had to reset the laptop and re install cubase, once from a constant blue screen bug in the system (according to the laptop tech) and second time due to login password not being accepted (i know for certain it was right) Since then i have several problems with Cubase 7. I know it has alot of bbugs which updates solve however the latest problem was despite the buffer size audio breaks and pops and realtime peaks constantly on the vst meter with only two or three tracks. I then started using cubase 6 with no problems untill today. Both 6 and 7 were constantly crashing as well as a new problem just the sound cutting out. Both on cubase and other functions such as youtube and windows media player. The input meters were still working though on both cubase and windows. MY interface is a focusrite scarlet 2i2 using the latest drivers. I wont rule it out but im sure it is not that seeing as apart from when the computer and cubase crashes works fine. I have simply had enough seeing as today between them both the computer and cubase models 6 and 7 crashed 8 times forcing me to restart the computer to get the sound back only for it to lose sound or crash 10 minutes later. So what do you guys think, is it likely to be Cubase or could my computer have developed a problem?
    Thanks guys Kayde

So many variables. You should be recording to a separate hdd. Never record to your system drive. The login issue could have been caused by the caps lock key being on or accidentally touching the track pad. You can get a wireless mouse and turn off the track pad. In regards to Cubase, are you using ASIO as your audio engine?

Also, do a virus scan. Download kaspersky rescue disk. It's not fool proof but it's a start.

I know what you mean about about the track pad i have had that issue before but it wasnt, also i tried entering with caps both on and of i am honestly certain. What do you mean about the seperate HDD? and yes I am using AISO problems are both the same with ASIO guard on and off.

Invest in an external hard drive. Turn off windows update. Update manually. ASIO is the audio engine not a "guard". You should be using focusrite ASIO not ASIO multimedia or ASIO full duplex.

First of all, get yourself an external hard drive. This is crucial. Your OS is constantly accessing your system drive. You need a drive that is exclusively for audio. I have no idea what "AISO guard" is. My guess is that it has little or nothing to do with this situation. Do a full update of Windiows then turn off automatic update. This could take hours and several reboots.
