destructive editing (mac user)

Discussion in 'Recording' started by capitancarajo, Jan 18, 2002.

  1. Hi,
I work with ProTools at a radio station but use Logic at home. I like Logic over PT many times, but when it comes to destructive editing, I would love to be able to apply a VST plugin (like we do with Audiosuite in PT) and creating a new file for the resulting effected region... Ive tried sample editor but it seems to change every region in the arrange window, and not being able ti apply VSTs destructively...

Am I right here? hope not.

I'll appreciate any advice from you on this topic,

    thanks

    Hey Capi! Interesting Topic...

First: Sorry, but LA does not have the function to apply VST to an audiofile "audiosuite-like" - you only have simple DSP algorithms like gain-change, normalize, etc..in the Sample-Edit.
To apply a VST-plugin, you have to bounce it to a new Audio-File. If you want to use this in PT as well, watch out for the interleaved/split-stereo option!

Second: If you apply i.e. gain-change to a Region, all other Regions, that point to the same Audiofile will be affected. To avoid this, first convert all Regions in the Arrange-Window to individual Audio-Files. Now changes in the Sample-Edit don't affect the other Regions.
Quite "logic", don't you think? ;-)

    Keep on ROcking!

Are bounces in Logic done real-time, or some multiple of real-time?

    Realtime only...

  5. Hey guys,

I forgot to say thank you for your useful responses, they helped a lot.

I've been far from logic for a few months but now I'm back and doing a lot of bouncing... quite easy and practical for freeing up processor and memory.

I'm happy there's always a way for doing everything within Logic.

    But...

Yet another question about Audiosuite and Premiere plugs within the sample editor: If I don't have a DAE folder in my system (don't have PT or any Digidesign hardware) could I still use Audiosuite plugs some way?

    Hi Capi!

    I use Premiere-plugs (just set up a Folder Premiereplug-insin your LA-folder)...but didn't get Audiosuite going... :(

  7. Danke schön Niko,
Seems like an easy way of having some fast destuctive power. Never tried Premiere plugs but if Logic supports them, they surely must be cool.

My pleasure...well, I only use Opcodes Vinyl to vinylize loops once a year, or so...it's not of soo much use.
