whether you need to use an impedance matching transformer to get a correct microphone connection on a VS-880? Or will a simple XLR->1/4" TRS do?

Is the TRS input labelled mic or line? If it's labelled mic, it will be fine. XLR and TRS are both balanced signal connections (unless the TRS is an insert, in which case the tip is send, the ring is return and the sleeve is ground. Where in Nashville are ya?

Actually it just says "Input" and the manual says just plug any old thing in (essentially :) I'm actually more concerned about impedance and HF response and level issues by a mismatch.

    I'm in Creive Hall. You?

hbj, Sorry for the late reply, went out of town for a few days. Some friends recorded their CD on a VS-1680, had it mixed in PT, it sounds great. I know they used an outboard pre on vocals, but I think they used all other mics on inputs. no loss of highs I could hear! I'm in SW Davidson, off HWY's 100 & 96. C'mon over and have a look around, give that CD a listen. PM me through the forum here.
