Fastest cpu with win98?

Discussion in 'Recording' started by flatrockrecordin, Feb 4, 2003.

  1. I think I read somewhere that win98 would not support cpus over 2.0. True? Not true? I'm wanting to upgrade and am planning to dual boot 98se and 2000pro. My ADAT card that I still use for transfers to pc will only work in 98 or 98se. If only Alesis would give updated drivers to us few remaining users.....

    No, there's no limit as the speed as far as I know...it's more memory that you can't use over 512MB. I've installed 98SE on a couple of P4 2Ghz machine with no problem.

    Btw, Win98 works perfectly with at least 1 GB of RAM, all you have to do is add the following two lines to your system.ini under vcache :
    MINFILECACHE=16384
    MAXFILECACHE=16384
    This limits the disk cache to 16 MB which is plenty enough.
    Just thought I would pass this on......
