I have the same problem. It just takes trying it time after time and playing your master in as many different players as possible till it sounds good on all. I'm told that mastering engineers know the secret of how to do this. I have 2 sets of monitors and then play the master on all 5 players in my home till I like the end result. :?

You could try using Harbal software. It does seem to reduce the variation caused by different playback devises.

Nothing can beat a good set of monitors. It only takes 1 pair.
