I can buy this used, but I'm wondering if it will work well with Logic Pro 9 on Snow Leopard? I will use quite some effects and (of course) many tracks on my songs)

    iMac 2008
    2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    500GB (don't know, but I assume it is 7200rpm)

I'm not a Mac guy so can't help you much there other than to tell you to go to the websites of Logic and Apple and look up the specs. They will tell you what you need to know.

I've got it running normally on Snow Leopard buddy. No problems at all

It will work, you may have to freeze tracks during the mixing process as you add efx.

Check out the Logic benchmark thread from Gearslutz. (Dead Link Removed)

Be aware that compared to the current Macs it would be a low end machine, also I completed my CD project on a lesser machine than the model your'e looking at.

I recently upgraded to a quad i7 MBP, cpu wise it compares well with the first 8 core Mac pros.
