    hello.

You want to buy either a drum machine or a sampler. The #1 tool used in hip hop music is the Akai MPC. The specific model you get depends on how much you can afford. However, you don't want to blow your wad on just that. You'll need sounds, and lots of them. There are MANY sample and loop libraries out there. I cannot recommend one to you because they are generally taylored to a specific sound...so you'll need to find one you like by listening to them and then make your own decision.

If you want to go a different way, you could get a good workstation synth. The Yamaha Motif or Korg Triton series of keyboards are nice and widely used.

If you are just starting out, get a drum machine so you can learn the basics. The Boss drum machines are good, have good sounds and are easy to use. You could probably get one for just a few hundred bucks.

Now on the computer end, again, if you are just starting out, just use your existing sound card to record your beats into the computer. As you learn more, you'll want to upgrade to a better quality audio interface. Maybe something PCI or Firewire based.

So you know, Beat Making is more akin to song writing than it is to mastering. The mastering forum is not really the place for this sort of question. Questions of this ilk will probably get more response if you post them in the General Chat, Home, Project Studios, Song Writing or possibly even in the DAW's And Computing forums.
