I was wondering what people thought of the korg D16xd. I'm thinking about spending 2 grand on this but I wanted some opinions. :-?

Not many "All In One" DAW users around here. Just make sure you do your research, and READ THE FINE PRINT. The VS2000 and Korg 16/32 BOTH have limited track count at 24 bit / 44.1K recording depth (24 bit is the industry standard, and reduced track count at 24 bits is not desirable IMO).

FWIW - I have a VS-2480 that I use. It was my main recorder, but I have upgraded to Nuendo and a PC (plug ins ROCK!!!!). If you look on eBay, you can find a used 2480 for like $2000 or less! The Akai DPS24 is also a good "All in one" for about $2000 used.

Also, if you plan on interfacing with a PC, or other DAW's, research the "File Portability" of these units. I know Roland can be a bitch about file portability (although the VS2000 does have USB IIRC).

Go to your local Music Store and spend a few hours on a few different days playing with this stuff. $2000 is a descent investment, and you will want to be certain that YOUR choice meets YOUR needs...

I think it depends what you want to use it for. If portability is important then hey cool. If it is many tracks all at 24 bit well these things have limits !
