Okay, I sound like a bozo but I'm not trying to impress anyone so I'll ask a really lame question and hope someone can help me figure out how to hook this up to my PC.
Does anyone know how to hook a Lavry AD10 up to a PC? I know you can hook it up to a Mac via light and get a pristine AD but I can't figure out how to get it to work with my PC. PC's are so confusing to me.

I'm have an optical input for the PC but I don't get a read from it with the AD10.

here is a rear pic of the AD10

I've been using a FireFace 800 for my studio. Can I use the FF 800's inputs somehow to input the AD10? But then I would be using FW and that would defeat that pristine conversion of this gem.
Do I need another piece of hardware to get this working? The manual is obviously for someone other than a newbie.

I would go via the FireFace 800 rather than some unknown S/PDIF port on the PC. Providing everything is correctly clocked, there is no signal degradation once it is in the digital domain, so you don't need to worry about that.

You could either connect the optical S/PDIF out of the AD10 into the ADAT2 input of the FF800 (selecting S/PDIF for this input function), or use an adaptor cable to run from the AES/EBU output of the AD10 into the coaxial S/PDIF input of the FF800. Section 29.2 of the FF800 manual shows how to wire an adaptor.

You would need to set the FF800 clock source to be optical or coax S/PDIF, as appropriate, or else use wordclock from the FF800 to clock the AD10.

Thanks Boswell, that's what I needed to hear!

Here is a good cross post with Dan Lavry talking more about the AD-10's gain structure and answering a bit on hooking it up.

Hey audiokid if you get chance could you a comparsion between the FF ADC and Lavry ADC?

yes, definitely. I'm excited to hear the difference as well. I don't know if you read my opinion on the Lavry MP-10 ( mic pre) into the FF 800. Man, what a nice surprise to my ears. Acoustic guitar is so sweet with it. These half rack units are really starting to grip me. I'm anticipating similar results with the AD-10 and can't wait to put the two together as a combo.

I did a shoot between the cranesong hedd192 and the fireface ADC's. I sold my fireface's and keep the cranesong...but the fireface did pretty good considering there is alot more power under the hood in the fireface.

The AD-10 sounds like a great unit.
