I'm going to pick up a new vocal mic soon to be used on male rock/blues. I'm looking in the $500 - $1000 range. If it helps, the preamps I've got to chose from are the Focusrite ISA428 and Vintech 1272. Will also probably try using with acoustic instruments and distant mic for kick drum.

Search the archives - has been asked and discussed many many times...

    Rode K2
CAD M9 (I think thats the model)
maybe even a Royer or AEA ribbon if it works for ya.

I went with the K2, very happy with it so far.

I have the TLM 103 and use it for male rock vocals...to me it sounds great. very little coloration if any. i'm not sure if you would like that or not, though.
