Man, I am my own worst enemy. Mixed all day on my new monitors, which I love, but I was not making anything sound good... I am rusty. Argh!!!

This is very normal and I have experienced it myself. It can often take dozens to hundreds of hours to break in your monitors to both your ears and their new enviornment. Hang out in front of those things and play all your favorite CD's tapes, records, radio and just kick back and listen. If these are a decent step up from average monitors then you'll enjoy the music even more as you begin to re-experience music and begin to hear details in the music that you didn't hear before or mabe only noticed when using headphones. I still spend many hours listening to everyday kind of music on my monitors on a regular bassis to keep a frame of reference that I use to compare what I mix on them.

I know- there are days where everything sounds flat to me and I can do no right- there are also days where the opposite is true- I try not to make many critical mixing desitions on bad days because Im afraid to mess things up- the funny thing is that when I go back to the stuff the next day its usually ok :D :D

    Whatever works!!! happy mixing :D

thanks guys... I am bringing a bunch of cds to the studio to day to download into my "critical listening" folder, I definatly need to just be listening to music on them more... Today is bound to be better than yesterday... :D

I always listen to a compilation CD I made for myself to acclimate myself to new monitors, which happens several times a month as I freelance so much. It's always so nice to get home to my own studio.

Its official!!! The new monitors RULE!!! I gotta stop second guessing now that I am using new speakers, THAT was my major problem... I am getting much closer to the sounds I want.

(due to a shipping catastrophe, my Tannoys got destroyed and I had to use my Yahmaha PA system*... Now I am on the infamous Mackie 824's. I do a lot of electronic stuff on my own time, and these are great!!!

*good lord it was a nightmare that seemed like it would never end!!! It was a lesson in humilty for sure!
