We have been using a roland v drum set a lot as there is no room for an acoustic kit at the moment oin my present home studio (not too mention noise issues with the neighbors). the roland drum soounds are ok but we would like to expand our drum sonic palette a bit. We do have Digital Performer and mach five and can use giga and other sample formats. Any recommendations?

Check out Drumkit From Hell. I have the original version and find it to be quite realistic.

Bob Clearmountain (Mix Engineer) has at least a couple of titles available. I've demoed one of them and they're very polished drum samples.

Thanks guys. hey David, I went to toontracks website and they have a new version of DFH called DFH superior. It goes for like $269 at sweetwater and it has like 35 GB of samples plus three plugins "Superior drummer", 'superior percussionist" and "superior cocktail" Have you heard any of these plugins? Is it worth it paying over $100 for the DFH with the expansion?

i think the one from Clearmountain are the AKAI Clearmountain samples. i use them. i think they're quite decent.

though, heard of good reviews for DFH, but never heard them.

    Xavier,

I'm not sure about the new stuff; I just have the original. Wow. 35 GB. Hope they have it on DVD. Soon, they're gonna start selling sample libraries on hard drives!

I've got some nice drum samples by samplng straight off vinyl. I just cue up the kick, hat, snare, ect. The sounds aren't always the most natural but they really punch through the mix. Also you can rest assured that you are developing your own unique sound.

Yeah, for sure! I ordered from sweetwater- should be here anytime- with the plugins you get the kits in multi-track form- kick, snare, OH, etc. You are even supposed to be able to even control the amount of bleed from the other tracks! My drummer Steve is really excited about it and he says that we are getting some rare and expensive sampled instruments in this collection. We've been recording the production we've been working on- "elrod geare" (which is a jazz/rock/latin hybrid project) using his V drums. If the new DFH is all is supposed to be I can see us spending the next few sessions changing all the drum sounds! :D
