    I'm your typical overwhelmed pre-newbie.

Has anyone seen an overview of computer-based recording software products? I'm looking for something (such as your typical magazine annual product review, etc) that takes all your market-leading sw products and does any of the following:

    1) categorizes it broadly by function/purpose
    2) categorizes it by target market (beginner, intermediate, advanced amateur, professional, etc
    3) assesses it against a features & functions list (you've seen these before--I'm talking about your two-page fold-out table of products against features with checkboxes or symbols in the intersection cells).

The same thing for interface cards would be pretty darn handy, too.

I think you'll find the information you want is spread all over the place in various articles and reviews. Harmony Central have some online user reviews. Sound on sound and EQ mags are a good source as well.

    Good luck.....

I would definately reccomend Sound on Sound..sometimes their articles come out a little behind what is the norm but they are very reliable and very informative indeed!
