I just installed XP...everything is great so far. However, under the Device Manager and under Sound,video... there is one of the Yellow Exclamation symbols on a "unknown Device" there are no drivers for it...is that normal? I thought if there was NO device it would not even show up??? Or is it just saying there is space for something else????

Welll...what devices do you have? list them and then tell me if it is a ghost device or not...try uninstalling it and see what happens. You left a big hole for me to help you with...it also could be that that device in question needs better support for WinXP.

OK, I uninstalled it and cleaned it out...I did a restart and everything seems to be fine...I hope it was nothing too crucial. I installed XP over Win 2k, maybe it was something left behind? Why is it everytime I turn off the 428 before I shut down my computer it causes a crash?

ewwww....you did an upgrade? tsk tsk tsk...that's a no no daffy!!! I would reccomend doing a fresh clean install on WinXP...I never reccomend upgrading as it always leaves something behind as you have noticed!

There was an article in our local paper this morning (what are the odds???) that was *very* clear that you should install XP as a new install *only*...upgrading from W2K or 98SE/ME is just plain "problematic"...besides the rabbit droppings that llornkcor left behind. ;)

I will do a fresh install. Should I remove all the hardware devices? The tascam, joystick etc. and install those after the OS is on the computer?

no..you can leave them attached..just leave the 428 off until the OS and all apps are installed..then install the latest 428 drivers..reboot and then turn the 428 on and let t do it's thang!!
