I know that I am asking simple questions to musicians & engineers with commercial studios but I could really do with your advice please - I have a computer based home studio and am having difficulty in separating sounds in a mix. I use Cubase SX2, a UAD-1 card & Alesis M1 active Mk2 monitors, but my mixes sound jumbled even after e.q. (guitars, drums, vocals & keyboards - rock style) I found working with 4 track tape easier for this ! Do I need to start looking at using outboard processors eg. Lexicon reverbs and preamps to improve the carity and separation of sounds in a mix, or maybe outboard like SPL's Charisma 8 ? I am trying to find the most economical route without buying gear that I do not really need ! There is so much out there to choose from !
