We are producing a tribute CD of a deceased, but very popular, artist.

    1. If we wanted to include a drawing of the likeness of the artist on the CD artwork, is permission needed? If so, from whom? How do we find out who handles the deceased artisit's affairs?

    2. Most of the dozens of participants in this project have devoted their time/talent/equipment/etc. free of charge, but there have been some necessary up front costs that we wish to recoup as rapidly as possible. To this end, what is the best way to market this CD initially? Internet? We have heard that the chain stores (like Borders Books) take 40% - initially we'd like to avoid that kind of cut.

    Suggestions, comments, marketing ideas?

Google Harry Fox Agency. Through this agency you can obtain the mechanical license for the music.
