    Hey guys!

Long time no speak. I've been busy. Anyway myself and my band Furian did this for a laugh whilst we are getting on with album things. Just wondering what you thought of this both mix wise and generally. It was only a bit of fun as I'm sure you will tell from the video and I rewrote the track to be a little different. I have very much gone for a motown laid back bass in the verse instead of a prominent thick one just for laughs but other than that, fire away. Hope you enjoy it and if not then well.. let me know why!

    Best wishes,

    Hope you're all well!

    - Dan

Pretty heavy doses of gain reduction going on... don't know if this is mainly on the master bus, or if you've also got individual tracks compressed/limited as well.
I'd sure like to hear the drums open up....things sound pretty squashed all the way around ... at least to my ears, anyway.

But, hey, what do I know? Maybe this type of over-compression/limiting is popular these days for this genre.

I'm probably not the guy to ask... or listen to.

I don't get this. This is already public on youtube. It tells me, you do not intend to change anything in the mix or any aspect of the production.
So you are just fishing for hits on the video and/or good words on your job?

    Ok, let's do it :
    • Nice song, oh yeah sorry it's not yours.
    • The drum gets burried with compression when the song gets busy, sound good alone tho
    • The vocal sound thin, like if the signer was to far of the mic or it's a cheap mic.. or it's a cheap pre could. It could also have a longer reverb
    • I'd like the mix to be wider, more open and breaths more. it's also missing some definition and HF
    Nice band, nice groove.

Could use a 'showcase' sub-forum to differentiate between 'mix-fixing' and...'show-casing'...

    Not a genre I listen to, so I can't even comment :)

In all honest Donny. This is not my ideal mix. We rushed the entire thing and that’s why I posted it up here. I was kinda half hoping you’d flag up what you have because you’re always straight with me and I am of the same opinion and I’m generally not very happy with my mix. It’s a bit too squashed but being a messaround, truth be told I haven’t worked very hard on it due to time. I usually get good reviews on my mixes and it’s nice to hear that with this one my instinct that I may have compensated too much with overcompression etc seems to be correct. For the record, you are absolutely a guy I'd listen to.

Pcrecord – I am a contributing member of this forum and have been for many years and I value the advice of people on here very highly. The notion that I cannot learn from my mistakes on something that has been released is quite frankly ridiculous and I will treat your response with the same stand-offish tone that you have given me. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt in music it’s that it’s saturated by douchebags and it pays not to be one so maybe that’s something I can pass on to you. I am absolutely open to criticism but your response is nothing short of rude. "Oh yeah it's not yours". We actually only kept this lyrics so even that's a bit of a narrow call? Never the less I appreciate your input and thank you for your time.

FreightGod - Whilst this isn't an attempt at a showcase it is genuinely me asking for my mix to be ripped to bits whilst hopefully entertaining some people I think that your suggestion might be a good one to make to the mods! We are all creative after all.

I have to say. What is it with people and always looking for reasons to be negative ? What does it actually accomplish ? We're all human. We're all the same fundamentally. Be nice. I hope whatever problem in your personal life probably caused your attack on me subsides and things improve. Sheesh.

I'm sorry if you found me to be rude.
I'm trying to be honnest and write what I think. And What I wrote is truly what I think.
I'm desapointed that you didn't come to us for comments while producing the song. You just present it after the fact and that's a thing I don't like. Nothing against you, this is something I said to others too. Keep in mind I wrote my post with that disapointement to begin with but I tried to comment the mix anyway and I think my comments were honest even tho I don't pretend to know it all.
It's sad that you just retain this from my post :
Man, it's a Bruno Mars song, I'm sorry to say that you kept a lot more that the lyrics my friend
Even if you transpose it and change the instrumentation, If you keep the chord progression and the melody. It is still a Bruno Mars song and he can ask you a cut on your sells.

We didn't keep the chord progression. The chords are all different. Perhaps you don't remember the original. Vocal melody however, yep. We did keep that for obvious reasons. He can't ask for a cut on sales because we're not selling it. We're not interested in selling covers, oddly enough for the reason you state. We don't consider it ours to sell. This was done in good spirits for what's practically a joke to keep the people who follow our band happy. Spirits that you seemed intent on dampening. If that's how you feel then ok I accept that and you are 100% entitled to your opinion which I also respect but... Your post came across as rude/bitter and that's what I felt the need to flag up. If it's of any worth to say we only sell original material and we know that a cover is a cover. I appreciate your feedback on the mix and I've taken it into account. As I say. I try to learn from everybody on here. Furian are an originals band. I thought this might make people smile whilst I got some mix feedback but apparently I have misjudged horribly. It seems that my blaringly positive approach was perhaps an error. This is what your post looks like in summary, even after I clearly stated it was just a bit of fun but I wanted mix/general feedback.

*I'm really bitter and rude for some reason.*
    *You're just fishing for compliments.*
*That song isn't yours and covers should be illegal*
    *The mix isn't great.*
    *PS. Nice band and groove.*

When you consider the above and how it reads you might see where I'm coming from.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.

Now YOU are being rude ;)

I actually compared your version to the original before commenting and I find them to be very much alike ;)

OK, please wipe everything I wrote from your brain and read my constructive comments here :

    • The drum gets burried with compression when the song gets busy, sound good alone tho
    • The vocal sound thin, like if the signer was to far of the mic or it's a mic choice.. or it's the pre choice. It could also have a longer reverb
    • I'd like the mix to be wider, more open and breaths more. it's also missing some definition and HF
    Nice band, nice groove.

Those are opinions and you are welcome to disagree.
