I am doing some drum tracks Sat. and because I have no isolation rooms I am tracking bass and guitar direct. The guitarist is using amongst others Rte 66 overdrive/compression pedal. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Route66 So in preparation for the session the guitarist came in to set up a sound for the tracking session. When the overdrive was engaged the sound/tone was awful IMO which I realize could be his settings but I was wondering if this was just because we were direct? Does the amp load have to be there to get a good sound from pedals like this and is there something simple I could do to improve it direct? He is using a vintage Fender amp so no direct out on his amp.
