I was wandering what is the extra XLR connections on snakes (the ones that has boxes like the wall boxes on the studio). For example, is a 16 channel snake, and there is four more XLR connections named A, B, C, D...

It's probably a 20 ch snake then... the extras are male XLR right? Probably used as return feeds for main and monitor amps located on/near the stage.

So, can those returns be used as cues??

Sure, long as they're hooked up properly. You might want to open the box up and check just to be sure. It is conceivable someone could have wired it to do some weird $*^t that won't work when you plug it in for cues. But if it's off the shelf it'll probably work fine.
