    I have been a hard-core JBL 4310/4311/4312 & 4411/4412, 4308, 4408, L. 19, L. 100 user when I first heard them at age 12 in 1968. Started using them in 1972. Only recently have I gravitated to some KRK's. I've had Rock-it's, RP 5 & V6's. And I've used their V-8 & V. 88's but I'm not found of sub woofers, even though I've used them.

I've heard other higher-end & low-end monitors that I have no problem working upon once I've listened to my "reference CDs". I have about 10 that I use regularly to acclimate myself to virtually any monitors placed before me. But my favorites are the above mentioned monitors. And I particularly like Crown & Bryston direct coupled amplifiers. I find the old-fashioned Macintosh amplifiers too flabby sounding in comparison. Besides, I like a beefy amplifier for my speakers. You can never have too much power. But you can have too little. And I find that the largest problem with the low-cost "sell powered" monitors. I mean who in their right mind would only want 25 W for your high-frequency driver? Especially when you can have 150 W? And that's the least that I want for the low end. So you have to ask yourself? Rock-and-roll? Or, Orchestral?

Take your CDs with you. If it sounds too loud? Buy it.

Do you remember the JBL Control 5's
I still have a pair that I use but I don't know how good those are as "real" monitors.....maybe you have an opinion. I've listened to Mackie monitors (powered) a friend has and they have nice bass response.
I should go listen to some KRK's. I have debated buying a set of powered monitors but so far the JBL Control 5's are a good comparison tool.
I spend too much time with headphones on and not enough time with the speakers...

Yeah, I had my eyes on those years ago. I believed pretty much an industrial version of a 4308/4408? If I were you? I wouldn't change a thing except for may be a better studio oriented power amplifier? You have an excellent pair of reference monitors. Waste your money on more microphones. Those are definitely good rock-and-roll speakers. So record us some good rock-and-roll?

Rock-and-roll & JBL. My favorite flavor.

    Thanks for the comment
Good advice...maybe a Crown amp to sweeten the Control 5's would be the better way to go and microphones
