I'm trying to answer this question for my degree's research project. If you have an opinion please can you take my survey, it will take 5min and will be a great help for my project.

The DAW with which you are most familiar.

Do you want to use it for music or post, after your project?
If so, invest a few bucks more and don't waste any money on a cheapo software of limited use.
Being a student you can get Cubase from Steinberg vor about 300 $. That is a bargain and a serious tool.

Exactly. There is an epidemic of severe laziness out there. Go do some research and make up your mind for yourself what the "best" software for a home studio is. It will be more honest if you do it yourself. For that matter it will suit you better and you're the only one who counts in this case. You simply cannot answer the question the wrong way.

If you are a novice, use the one with the largest customer base. That way when you get lost, there will be a user out there that can help you figure it out. Now if the question is "what is the most popular DAW for home recording", that's an entirely different thing.
