im building a new daw and went to the asus website to see thier line up of prescot boards, i was amazed by the number of them, many with the same name, p4p800 for example has many difrant chipsets. and so to my question which prescot chipset is best suited for audio recording?

Asus P4P800 mobos all have Intel 865PE chipsets. The difference in models is the inclusion of things like LAN, RAID (ICH5R instead of ICH5) and Firewire ect...

Whether or not you need these extras is up to your self and budget.

Either Intel 865PE or 875P chipsets will suit Audio recording. Make sure these boards do support 'Prescott' though as not all do. I haven't checked ASUS's website to know or not. I know most of Abit's 865PE and 875P boards do.
