Ditto what FifthCircle said.

Had that happen to mine, wasn't being careful once and unplugged a mic with phantom on and blew 3 channels at once. luckily tascam was good for it and fixed it under warranty, however the guy I spoke to from tascam was quick to blame me saying that it is common studio knowledge not to do that bla bla bla. It was interesting to note that his responce sounded pre-meditaded, don't think it was the first time he got a call like that.

Note also that nowhere in any documentation from tascam does it even mention the correct procedure for this, something that he said tascam was updating in future manuals or in his words he said it was there in small print somewhere (I have yet to find it) and they were going to bold it out.

Keep this in mind if you are going for warranty, I wouldn't be quick to assume guilt when talking to tascam.

I don't know if I'd go that far to say that the FW1884 is a complete pos.

After loading the updated drivers mine has been running perfectly for over a year and a half. And after I got the inputs fixed havn't had any problems since, I am ultra careful not to blow them again though.

Never had any latency issues either especially since you can direct monitor with it, or choose the amount of latency to work with which would be determined by you computer capability/ track count etc.
