It was once mentioned to me that if you can't say anything nice don't say any thing at all, so I punched him in the face and said I was sorry.

Recently the AKG-D112 has been brought up in the forums, a general consensus is it sucks. And it gets compared to other mics as "not as good as. " . thanks for clarifying that for me.

I own a D-112, maybe it's because I run it through a tube channell strip, that I have been able to not only get the kick sound I am looking for but also am able to recreate a wide variety of impacts in my mixes.

When comparing equip, even in budget price ranges, it's the details of an opinion that I find interesting and worth reading. If all you can type is that it sucks, maybe that's what you like to do and it's just not your opinion. :twisted:

Yes the D112 does sound weak under 70 hz. I end up boosting 60 hz anywhere between 5-10 db on my pre amp/strip. It depends on the kick. It does have alot of punch as you mentioned in the higher register.

I record the kick open faced with the skin loosened to the point of waffling when hit. Then I place the d112 aimed right at the beater about 4 inches away. I like the low end thud with a bit of sustain coupled with the beater impact and a touch of breath.

The D112 is a studio standard, a lot of good kicks and basses have been recorded with it.

You do have to work more to get a "thud" out of it.. it is a bit clickly sounding, but it is possible to get a good sound out of it by scooping.

Find the part of the sound you think sucks in it and cut it, and then pull the kick up.

Wouldnt be my first go to mic for kicks, but I'd rather have one than not.

That's my experience with it anyway, though I am a n00b.
