What would be the cheapest way for me to record what i play on my guitar and put onto my pc in WAV Format?

Could someone please help me my mate gave me one of these ( http://www.zzounds.com/item--ZOMMRS4 ) to sell for him, but I'm thinkin of buying it to record but I'm not too sure if its worth it.
Is there any cheaper method to record, and obviously i would like the recording to be at least 44kHz?
Any ideas, or suggested buys?
btw, the guitar isn't pre-amped.

Cheapest? Well, just plug the guitar cord (with an adapter) into the sound card's line input. This will not provide you with good results. Next after that, you can add a preamp which will run ya maybe $50.00 for something cheap. You can then plug into the sound card, and it will sound better but not the best.
The next option is to use that preamp with a microphone and catch the actual sound of the guitar, from an amp or acoustically

It really all depends on the sound quality you're after. I would suggest a cheaper model of an amp sim. You can look around online and find several fairly cheap. I would recomend the Behringer V-amp 2. I own one and have actually got some very realistic amp tones out of it. For the price, you can't beat it. As far as PC programs are concerned,,,once again, there are plenty of multitracking programs out there that would serve your purpose. I like Acid Pro by Sony. I've been using it for years and have really become attached to it. However, if you're simply wanting to capture a single track onto your PC, you won't need any of these. Do as the previous post suggests and just plug into your computer. You can download free wave recorders all day or download the trial version of some better programs to weigh your options.
