I am pondering purchasing one of these for my home studio. I don't "play" the drums but I can sort of "play" the drums, and this would be a very inexpensive set that can supposedly at least sequence drum tracks in a midi sequencer.

Has anyone had any experience with this product? It sells for about 260 at Target and it's very inexpensive on eBay.

It seems like an ok deal for someone like me, who doesn't want to spend 2k on something top of the line.

Let me know!

looks like a cheap solution and it says it has

Complete MIDI implementation

you need to know that it does send midi notes and those notes can be re-mapped to your software sounds (Reason)
there are a few ways to achieve this

it will need a midi in if you want to fire the internal sounds from the sequencer

Midi is one of those things you just need to start using in order to understand what we might say about gear

This thing could be weak and flimsy
and this could be it's ultimate downfall

I realize that it may be flimsy and all but like I said, I don't play the drums anyway, but I can "play". It's not worth it for me to buy a really nice kit .

I'm not quite sure if you answered my question though:

Is this "Complete MIDI Implementation" real time? Can I hit a drum pad and hear it in the sequencer right then? Or do I have to record a pattern first and then send it

I'm not worried about MIDI in, just out.

as much as midi can be real time

I'd expect any midi gear today to spit out a midi note close to real time
there is such a thing called midi latency and this is in addition to audio latency
so ... yes ... real time

Can I hit a drum pad and hear it in the sequencer right then?

that requires the sequesncer to send the note to the sample playback ... here is where the latencies begin to be a problem

Or do I have to record a pattern first and then send it

I tend to listen to the sounds of the D4 during record for minimum latency
.... hardware monitoring
then fire off the Reason drum kit on replay

I'm not worried about MIDI in, just out.

then you will never use the sounds inside the box for midi mixdown

as I said
you have to try these things to begin to understand the consequences of what I am saying

so in that sense ... anything ... that can get you started cheaply is a good thing

Vdrums - ProTools - Reason
... it's not Real Time
and the HiHat feature of the TD10 does seem to be less on playback
it's all relative and people requirement and standards are different

Real Time can mean different things to different people

I understand all about latency and how MIDI works.
