Hello Everyone,

I am a new member to the recording.org forum. I am requesting help! I am in desperate needs, by tomorrow (Saturday).

I am needing to record a Roland TD-8 electric drumkit. I am planning on taking each individual output to my firepod. I want the ability to multi-track the drums.

My problem is, I am wanting to also take the midi out to the firepod also. I have the Steinberg Groove Agent 2, and the Steinberg LM-7 VST Virtual Instrument plugins, that I am wanting to be able to use those sounds. I also have a Korg Triton, that I thought about using for sounds.

My problem is also, how do I connect everything, and how do I set it up inside of Nuendo 2? I am probably going to use either the LM-7 or the Groove Agent, but I don't know how to setup anything with midi. I want to be able to play the drumkit, and use the software based sounds!!

Please, if anyone can help me, I would be very appreciative!

I have the following Specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+
1.5gb DDR 400 Memory
80gb System Drive
250gb SATA 7200rpm Audio Drive
Firewire Controller Card
PreSonus Firepod
Samson Resolv 65a
Korg Triton
Steinberg Nuendo 2
Steinberg Groove Agent 2
Steinberg LM-7

Thanks SOOOO MUCH! AND IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME SOON, PLEASE DO! I AM NEEDING THIS FOR TOMORROW!
IF YOU WANT EMAIL ME: thestudioman@gmail.com

Thanks

I believe what you want is a Midi-Interface so you can control each device separately from your DAW through your firepod.

http://www.m-audio.com

Personally I use an 8x8 and it allows me to play/control whichever of my 6 synths I have selected in my DAW with either of my 2 midi controllers. I have 8 sets of Input/Output with this box, which I've setup to run as port 1 is midi I/O #1, port 2 is midi I/O #2, and so forth. Then, each port has the standard 16 midi channels for multitimbral instruments or in your case an electronic drum kit.

Say you plug your midi controller into the midisports port#1, soundard into #2, drumkit into #3, and synth into #4. The Midisport comes with software that makes it configurable as a virtual patch bay so your midi signal only goes *from* the location you want, *to* the location you want.
Then on your drumkit you set channel 1 to be kick, 2 to be snare, etc... or whatever floats your boat. Make sure yoursynth/drumkit is set to respond to the channel you setup inside of Nuendo and keep track of which port is for which device. Once you figure that out, you'll wonder why you havent had one from the beginning.

Make sense?
Extremely handy these are.

Thank you I really appreciate all your time. I actually have a Midisport 2x2, I think? I think that I'll get this eventually.

So basically I am going to take the midi-out of the drumkit to the midi-in of the firepod or probably the midi-in of the midisport. Then connect the midi-out of the midi-sport to the midi-in of the drumkit, so I can use the software drums, or the electric drumkit sounds, (which probably won't happen...)

Then I will take each individual 1/4" TRS output of the drumkit to the firepod on each channel...(the firepod has 8 mic/line inputs)

you want to route everything into and out of the midisport if you can. with the 2x2 you will have to let your synth stay idle and play it manually. When you get a 4x4 or 8x8 or whichever, then you can plug everybody into the midisport.

It's just like a patchbay, only for midi. You plug everything into that, then route from there. And yes, you are going to plug all your audio outputs into the audio inputs of the firepod.

so I can use the software drums, or the electric drumkit sounds, (which probably won't happen...)

just want to make sure you understand what midi is. It is a set of instructions, not sound. On, off, things like that.
