i recently purchased an Avalon 747 because i was told it is the best thing out right now to improve your digital audio sound during mastering.

i cant figure out how to connect the Avalon to my audio interface which is a PreSonus Firepod. and i also dont know how to setup a single audio track of my overall mix in Sonar to send it to the Avalon for mastering. can anyone explain exactly how to setup the Avalon with the Firepod and how to set the ins and outs in Sonar? thanx.

Dear Manny, you know the great president of the United States only has an IQ of 91! It seems like you're close behind him? Your firepod is a completely lovely device with 8 class A microphone preamplifiers already built in. It's not designed to plug another microphone preamplifier into its microphone preamplifier. It's sort of like gay sex. No matter how hard you try, you'll never be able to make a baby that way!

My friend, you must go find you're so some recording trade publications and/or actual books. You need to figure out why you are buying stuff you have no knowledge of? The Avalon 747 is a lovely device in the right hands, not in microphone preamplifier's.

When you master something, that generally indicates that you have already mixed your project in software. Once you have created your mix, then you can proceed to mastering your mix. You can also do that within your computer or you can feed the 2 track stereo output from your computer, of your mix, to your assorted outboard mastering equipment. Such as a hardware equalizer, hardware compressor, hardware limiter with that all plugged into your mastering recorder. Which could be a DAT machine, looped back into your computer, a analog deck or even a stand alone CD recorder.

In order to be able to utilize your Avalon 747, I suggest you read your operators manual.

Well, you were flat out lied to. And you are or were quite dumb indeed if you went and bought something based on one salesmans personal and mis-informed opinion without doing your homework.

If you plan to use the 747 for mastering, then you need to be able to send it a line level signal from the Firepod to the 747 and then send the 747 output line level signal back to the Firepod. Your also going to need to know how to configure your host software. Refer to your manuals or post in the Recording or DAW forums as this is not the place where basic recording techniques are to be discussed.
