this may not really be appropriate for the mastering forum, but i looked around at the others and i think you guys will have the best answer(s) for me.

my question is about file transfer, especially from clients to me.

how do most of you guys accept large audio files?

is ftp the best option?

what other options are there? email? yousendit.com etc?

my biggest concern is ease of use for the uploaders, and price of course, free is best for sure. not everyone is comfortable with ftp and zipping files especially rar chuncks etc.

so in other words -- what works best for you guys?

thanks in advance, and if this topic is not appropriate here i apologize

oops i almost forgot -- i have another semi-related question...

when i am finished with the project, i would like to send an .iso file as opposed to a physical disc. is this possible? what software is needed?

ok thanks

It certainly is faster than FedEx, but it is only as fast as the connection at point A, the connection at point B, and the Internet inbetween (it does slow down at times). As for secure, it is only safe from sniffing if you use SFTP or FTP via SSH. It is reliable though, no question about that. If FTP isn't working right, it typically is misconfiguration or user error. The former can be fixed once and hopefully never becomes a problem again. The latter usually goes away as more and more transfers are done.

alright well ftp it is then.
by the way i use xitami 'the fast and free server' from imatix
it's a bit of a pain to lean how to configure at first but i like it.
if anyone cares you can get it here http://www.xitami.com
i think it's reasonably secure
i suppose the files could be zipped with rar and password protected if security is a high priority

anyway...

what about the second part of the question?

is there an acceptable way to electronically provide the final master for duplication? is .iso acceptable especially with pq and upc etc? i have been submitting .wav files with a sort of cue sheet, but the duplication houses are charging my clients extra for this since they need to actually create the disc. this is fun this is fun this is fun.

thanks guys
