Here are two clips from two mid-level converters. Both have received good reviews and praises from their users. I can hardly hear a difference between the two samples so I would like someone with good ears and monitors to tell me if there is a difference between the two, if so, what is the difference.
I used a short excerpt from an acoustic recording and recorded the sample usign a stereo mic setup. So this is the sound coming out of the speakers.
Chain:
AKG 451 CK-1 mics > Hamptone JFET > 24 bit/48khz converter > Samplitude 32 bit float.
The samples were then unaltered and uploaded for you to hear. So these are 32 bit float, 48khz samples. They are each about 1.5 MB.
Once I get enough opinions I'll tell you which is which.

With all due respect, I don't think this is a very meaningful test. You are asking us to compare the naturalness of two artificial sounds.
Now if you were to sit there playing the guitar into the mics and then split the mic pre outputs into the two ADCs and recorded their outputs simultaneously on separate tracks, we would be in a better position to do the comparison.
Converter B has way more noise than Converter A. that's the only
Converter B has way more noise than Converter A. that's the only thing I can hear on those crappy headphones at work. i'll check again when I'm at home. But as of now, I would think that Converter A is way better.
On a second thought. It seems that Converter B has some high boost or Converter A has a high cut. But I can't really tell without hearing the original. Could you maybe post the original sample here?
