Microphone question.

I have a cheap 20 dollar radio shack dynamic microphone (lol). hooked up to an old technics deck which I use as like a preamplifier. I know how sensitive condenser microphones are but for some reason my microphone still seems very very sensitive, and when I record if you just listen to the vocals you hear like a buzz noise in the background probably due to the cheapness, oldness of my equipment. but when you mix down you cant hear it at all really. well go here http://www.myspace.com/stevenforpresident and listen and tell me what you think of the quality. But yeah I have some money not a lot but a few hundred so say if I bought like a 100 dollar condenser from ebay and a cheap new preamplier would it boost the quality of my recording substantially, also if you listen to my songs how far am I away from professional professional quality.

yeah the female vocalist on the chorus for the me and you song was pre-recorded. But otherwise do you think it sounds good? it was done on very poor standard equipment, but I do my best. So would it be worth it to invest in new equipment?

get a better microphone.. yes it will boost ur quality.. u proba

get a better microphone.. yes it will boost ur quality.. u probably have set ur gain or out put too high hence the buzzing noise.. get a good $200 condensor mic.. The more popular ones these days that people use for home recordings is the Rode NT1A. have a look at it, youll be amazed at the quality comapred to what u are using now..

A condenser will need phantom power, which the tape deck won't have - so you'd need the mic and a preamp. A better dynamic won't need a different preamp, but it's not likely that the mic preamp in the tape deck is worth much ... if you can swing it, a mic and a preamp would be the way to go.

A condenser would also need a mic stand - a crappy stand is only $20-$30, but that's more $$$ if you're budget is tight.

I'd say a decent dynamic mic would be a big step up - there are good dynamics to be had for $100-$150 from Shure, Audix, and Sennheiser. I don't have any experience with budget preamps that aren't part of a mixer.
