Please help me, really important

Well my entire life I wanted to be an Audio Engineer, but I never knew this field of work exsisted. To make a long story short, My friend and I will start a band, just like Trent Reznor did

I'm considering applying to a Audio Engineering college. Since I get everything paid from my dad, I wanted to know: What recording equipment would I need to have a home studio. Not included are instruments

I have a lot of free time, money, and no job. I am also considering brushing up my guitar and keyboard skills again by taking lessons

Could anyone help me out by giving me a list of equipment I would need, and recommend some decent to good ones

I'm currently messing around with Fruity Loops 6, if anyone has a better software, could you please tell me

I want to make the best impression I can when I send the school my demo tape. They only require simple beats, but I wanna impress them with actual songs made from samples

Any help is appreciated

I know it's an unfair advantage I have for getting everything paid for. And I really aknowledge all those who work for their finances. Basically all of my friends have to work for their stuff, and I don't which makes me feel bad

Yeah, on another forum I was told to get Pro Tools too, and a MAC computer

Thanks for all the advice

Dude,
don't feel bad or make applogizes for the fact that your are fortunate enough to have a father who cares enough and has the means to do such things for you.

Some adivce if I might...........
First off you should understand that whenever you tell people that 'Daddy got it for me'......you are going to get some heat, even though that is more their problem than your's if they don't understand.

And second, it will be harder for you in life, like it would be for anyone in your position to fully appreciate what is given so easily to you, but that is not to say that it can't and hasn't been done before, you could and should learn to even appreciated things more than someone who had to work for them. So, just keep your head screwed on tight, don't flaunt or squander what is given to you life, but always be respectful and gracious.
And always spend someone else's money, and even more so in this case of it being your dad's, with more care and concern than as if it was your own. And you'll be on the right track.
Good luck
