Hey everyone, I am new to the forum and am looking for some opinions on studio subs. I currently own a pair of KRK V6s and am very pleased with them. I recently decided that a sub would help me with monitoring. I am big into reggae, and the bass is a crucial part of the mix. I have a budget of around 300 to 500 dollars and am looking for a good powered sub. I have looked at the KRK Rokit 10s, and it seems ok. I have also read about the Blue Sky Universal sub 8. I am not sure what to go with here, and really have no experience with studio subs. What features should I be looking for? Opinionswould be greatly appreciated.

We have a Blue Sky system (the original one, not the "desktop"), and the sub is very....'sub'stantial (!). But, frankly, the KRK is probably a better match for YOUR rig. Subs can be very frustrating to integrate into a system and still have a good degree of "translation" to other systems. If, for example, you end up having to call the sub manufacturer with a question about response parameters, and you tell them you are using the "other guys'" mains, they may not be able to clear things up for you.
IMHO, you'd be better off sticking with the same brand.
