hi, is there a way to assign your mixer channels so that input 1 on your mixer is on channel 1 of cubase, and then imput 2 on channel 2 of Cubase and so on..

I used Cubase SX3 and an Alesis Multimix 8US

Thanks :D

Still haven't seen you over at cubase.net . I have to say, this is definitely in the Alesis manual. If you can't read that two pager, there's a problem. At any rate I will fill you in this one time. But I seriously think that if you can't figure this one out on your own, you should ditch that crack and go use the LE version of cubase that came with your mixer.

Pan the two channels left and right respectively. Yup. That's it. That's the whole damn trick. Good luck getting any other help.

Ok, well i have a Firepod and Cubecase Le so im not sure if its the same but for me this is what i do. The only thing ism is that im not sure if the multimix is multi-tracking capable. Do you know?

-Connect the firepod (multimix in your case)
-Open cubecase, create a new project
-Add how many tracks you are going to record. (project tab/ add track)
-Then go /Devices /VST Inputs. Enable and name the tracks you are using.
-Then go /Devices/ Mixer. From there there are little tabs that you can pull down to select the channel. lmk if it doesnt make sense.

right..it is multi-track compatable ! i have sort of worked out how to do it.. only problem is that my hardware has 8 inputs, and the VST connections is only saying i have 2 ( '3 USB audio device 1' and '4 USB audio device 2') and i only have 1 device :s .. and there are 4 XLR inputs, and four 1/4" jack inputs..
could anyone explain how i can sort this out pleeeasssee
Thanks for the help anyway :)

Let's break it down. USB interfaces only allow for two simultaneous inputs. So what happens when I want to record withmore than two mics you ask? Well lets see, you have to do a submix. Which means you would be mixing down your eight inputs to two outputs from the mixer to the available two inputs to software via usb. Likely this would be a stereo track. But wait! What if I wanted to record 4 guitars on a mono track to track one and 4 bass guitars to track 2 you ask? Well you would need to figure out how the mixer views the two outputs from the mixer via usb. Hmmmm. I wonder how that would work? Let's think here. If I record to a stereo track I do a submix and pan the channels accordingly......Is this a clue somehow?

What's that you say? Oh I'm sorry, your mouth is full isn't it? Let me know and I'll get another spoonful ready for you.

Ditch the warez. It's useless to you. 5thquarter is using LE and he has a far nicer interface than you do. If it'll do fine for him. It should be fine for you.

Unless your just screwing around trying to record a couple guitars here and their, then its a waste of time. I own a multimix and the firepod. If you have the cash id you should really really consider selling that mixer for $100 and get a firepod or another interface. IM NOT SAYING THAT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO NOT GET A GOOD SONG. For all i know your stuff may sound great. But believe me you will get major headaches trying to get a good sound out of that thing. You get the most noise out of that mixer i have ever heard.

But to what hueseph said. Give it a try, just might be the thing you needed.

Thanks for all the help everyone ! it explained alot, and i didnt know that with USB you can only have 2 simultaneuos inputs

and thanks hueseph ! yes, it was a big mouthful, and i did learn from it.. much quicker than it would have been for me to sit down and spend a long time working it all out ( which is unlikely that i would have been able to )

and yer 5th quater does have a better interface than me ! i would love to have one of those.. but i dont have £350 to spend..

Thanks again

What I meant is that 5thquarter is using Cubase LE with a Firepod. You admitted you can't afford $350 but you have SX? At any rate, I think it's obvious you have a crack and I'm not talkin about your butt. What I'm saying is, why even bother with the crack when you can't even put it to use? Simplify your options. LE is apparently already above your head. Get that into your skull first and save up the money for Cubase Studio 4.
