Under NO circumstances should you plug in any microphone into your computer microphone input other than a "multimedia computer microphone" designed to be plugged into one of those little bastard plugs. If you attempt to plug in your quality microphone through a series of adapters, you run the risk of blowing out your microphone completely. That would make you a very unhappy camper.

What you need to purchase for your self is an outboard USB or FireWire audio interface that features from 1 to 8, 3 pin "XLR" microphone inputs. THAT IS THE ONLY THING YOU SHOULD PLUG YOUR MICROPHONE INTO TO PREVENT DAMAGE.

This means, you're going to have to flip plenty of hamburgers to afford one of these devices that will run you around $200 and be worth every penny.

Hmmmmm Remy...you mean when I take my Neumann and plug it into my ART Tube MP, then to a cable to the Radio Shack XLR-to-1/4" impedence converter plugged directly into a 1/4"-to-1/8" adapter sticking out the back of the Soundblaster to use the Soundblaster "Mic" setting....that it may cause signal degradation and other problems which may result in a poor recording?

Now that I think about it, I think that would make for a very interesting sound effect?? Neumann + ART + tubes + Sound Blaster card into microphone input = Real Distortion for the current distortion generation. I mean they need something different from what we're used to working with?

I'll go for improper bias any day.
