Ok here is my list of gear with all of the interfaces listed and some ideas I had to start my setup.

IBook G4 (going to be upgraded soon)
Digi 002 (2 Midi ports)
MOTU 828(ADAT) into the Digi 002
Audio Centron 12 channel mixer(3 Stereo) 2 Auxes
Novation Remote Control Surface(Midi out, in and through)
24 point patchbay
Behringer Ultra Mastering unit (Midi for patch control)
DOD Digital Delay with a mono input and a Dry, Mix and Phase outs
dbx 166 Compressor
Boss Dr. Rythm (Midi in/out)
Roland Groove Box (midi in/out)
Roland JP 8000 Keyboard Synth (midi)
Roland GR-30 and GR-33 Guitar synths.(Midi)
Digitech Vocalist(midi)
Johnson J-Station (Run into 002 SPDIF)(midi)
Edirol Midi Interface (USB)
Small Yamaha Passport PA acting as a power amp to two advent monitors.

Here are my questions:

I was thinking of using the MOTU as my inserts in Pro Tools for my outboard gear to incude the Vocalist as an insert. I don't know how to set up Pro Tools inserts to be just one out such as going to the delay and the vocalist which both have mono inputs. As well the delay has three outputs which if I could would like to keep them all seperated going back in.

I also would like to be able to monitor my guitar ouitside of the box while sending a signal in to Pro Tools. I figured I'd just mute the output of the channel and monitor through the Audio Centron board. The Johnson J-Station allows a dry (no but the Amp Modeling) to travel down the SPDIF into the 002.

I also would like all of the midi gear to be set so that the can be controled through my computer. I have 2 ports on the digi 002, one on the Novation remote and one on the edirol interface)

Any suggestions please post

I'm not sure the Motu will work like that with PTLE and the Digi 002.

Don't think the 002 has a wordclock BNC connector, you would be better off with a device like this...

However other DAWs that support Core Audio, and you have OS10.4 and higher you can create an aggregate device, that will allow you to use both interfaces and all of their I/O.

MIDI ports:

You should probably buy a multi I/O USB MIDI interface... MOTU make a 5 x I/O one that isnt too expensive, and has been rock solid for the 5 years I have owned it...

Monitoring your guitar:

Why not just monitor from the 002? That is the signal that is being recorded.

Your questions arent really clear, as I am having difficulty trying to understand exactly why and what you are trying to achieve

Anyway, good luck

I guess I'm just looking for ideas to make my studio more economical in my workflow.

To answer your question about the guitar...If I monitor the sound outside of protools then I won't get any latency issues while I play. Also this allows me to hear the effects from the J-Station but record them in dry through the SPDIF.

It's mostly the midi gear that I have that I am looking for the best way to setup. I'm still a little confused with midi (I'm a guitar player what do you expect. I do have 3 seperate outs and ins on the 002, Novation Remote, and edirol midi connector.

My goal is to beable at anytime to send midi to any of the equipment and also beable to record the audio from any of them.
