Ok so a friend of mine wants to record and he goes out and gets this very costly mixer. it's a Mackie TT24. I went over to check it out and from the looks of it to me this thing is for live sound and it is not a multi track recorder. I looked into it a little and all signs tell me it does not record, and my friend blew a lot of money on this thing. so I just want to see if any one knows about this mixer, and hopefully could tell me if it records or not. I am 99% sure it dosen't but I need that 1% more of input before I tell my friend he is dumb.

It's true that some mixers (like the TT) have expansion slots into which you can plug FireWire cards and thereby connect directly to a computer, but that is only another interface card that happens to be housed inside the mixer rather than a separate box.
As you probably know, the FireWire cards are not yet available for the TT.

The TT24 is a nice mixer for live work, and you can get either 24 channels of analog outs via the insert jacks or 24 channels of ADAT out (at 44.1/48KHz) via three lightpipe connectors.
To record, all you need is an Alesis HD24 connected to the ADATs or an HD24XR connected to the insert outs and you're away. If you want to record to a computer, you will need either a 24-channel line-level analog interface or a card with 3 ADAT inputs. Try the RME HDSP 9652.
