hey guys

I'd like to know if any of you have heard any news about the new clock box from Apogee or not?

Yes, I am an employee of Apogee but there's just no question that this unit is an amazingly awesome one!

I'm just trying to find out if anyone has heard about it or not.

I'd like to point out some features of the unit if you don't mind.

Jitter...so low you can't measure it..this is no joke by the way!

ALF..Adaptive Loop Filtering...where as any external clock fed to the Big Ben will be cleaned up and made as tight as if it were the internal clock source

Sure Lock..if the external clock being fed to the Big Ben were to suddenly be disconnected or the power source shut off from it, Big Ben keeps the clock as if it was still present.

VSO-Vary Speed..in Absolute, Cents or percentage modes.

6 word clock outputs with the 5th and 6th outputs able to be set at whatever you need...256 clock, 2x, 1x, /2 or /4 times.

Video input.

Real time format conversion. AES. SPDIF or ADAT

Sample rates up to 192Khz

Thanks for your time on this one.

Cheers

From the start: Micheal, I hate you with envy. Bastard. Son of a *1 K tone*...
PCMS!!!! ANDDDDD A MANLEY MIXER! Psht. how dare you.

Anyhoo. Opus... I've known you a long time, and doubt you are the type to blow smoke up one's rectum. So, the vari-speed intrigues me. How does the sonic quality stand up when vari speed?

Also, the earlier apogees where marketed as being better, etc... Then the SE versions came out, which kinda makes me think the Big Ben might have an SE version in the future. What the deal?

Well,
The SE version converters are for analog only.

Since the Big Ben is purely digital there is no way to upgrade it or make it even better!

The Big Ben as it is has been proving to be an amazing difference to any digital scenario. Even if you have other Apogee products the clock in the Big Ben can improve anything!

The VSO quality is as good as the internal clock! I did a test where I vari sped a recording by clocking an AD, DA-16 and an RME 9652 card and it was flawless!

I tell you, I've never heard Peter Gabriel sound so weird! lol

A studio here in town demo'd a Big Ben with their Pro Tools rig and found that it enhanced their sound so well they immediately bought 12 of em!

How's that?!!

The stuff I buy is gear that you don't normally see in studios. For example, you'll never see me buy an LA2A. Every place I work has one. I do wish I'd start seeing more Crane Song gear in commercial studio racks. I'm trying to fight off buying more gear at the moment, but I think I've already decided that another MP-2 will be my next purchase.
