Hello,

I am a multi-instrumentalist musician, and I would like to have my own professional studio (but no low budget!).
I am planning to buy the following set:

http://www.proaudiosolutions.com/Pro...APOGEE%2DLOGIC

What do you think of the Apogee components and will this computer last for long, because I would like to buy one solid thing and don't have to change it in 2 years.
As well, I would like to hear from you (considering Professional Audio Solutions | Pro Audio Recording Sales, Consulting, Rental, Audio Computer Service offert) the best choice for mixer, monitor speakers and midi controller (I thought about Studiologic VMK-176).

Do you know any other good sites like ProAudioSolutions, which have good offerts and provide consulting for studios?

Thank you in advance for replies

The link is dead.

Nice name BTW, are you a Troll?

If you're not a Troll, why would you name yourself something so jejune on a forum such as this?

I suggest a name change at the very least - and if you're gonna record audio on a computer I'd expect and hope that at the very least you'd know how to properly copy and paste something as simple and rudimentary as a friggin' link!

trollawszy,

Sorry... that's a bad link...

I know nothing of Pro Audio Solutions, so I cannot comment too much other than they appear to be a big box company.

However, I am going to kinda take you to tasks a bit on such a naive post.

OK, you say you want to have your own pro studio, but you really don't seem to understand beans about what you are doing. If you got cash, you'll get sold gear that may or may not really be pro level. Personally, I think that stinks, but a fool and his money are usually soon parted.

Let's get a few base questions asked and answered before we delve into this too far.... cool?

First, you are a musician. Strike one. (Just kidding... but only kinda') You do realize that to own and operate a real honest to goodness professional studio, your actual playing days are now numbered. Unless you actually are going to operate this studio as your own personal studio and take in only the odd friend to record their stuff once or twice a year.

Second, what about your physical studio infrastructure? Have you already built? Are you up-fitting a commercial facility?

The reason I ask this, and the reason it's pertinent, is your relative budget. If you have a $10k budget, you're gonna have a $10k room and no money left for gear.

If you have a $100k budget, you can have a $50k room and $50k in gear... or anything in between.

In my opinion, and it obviously ain't so humble, your room is more important than your gear. Get your facility taken care of first, THEN worry about your gear. You may have already taken that into account, if so... then right on! Let's talk about gear.

I may get the usual "damn you're a hardass meany" whine form some here, but when you step up to the pro-level, it's pretty friggin' ruthless, and you better REALLY want to survive.

You sound like you're a decent person, who just doesn't truly realize how complex an tedious building a pro level studio is.

If you want to deal with people (vendors) that DO really give a shit about their customers... I'd first tell you that vendors that offer complete turnkey are probably not as good at it as they should be.

Room designers/engineers/architects are usually pretty well occupied with that discipline... a bit much so, (if they're worth a damn) to be all up on the latest and greatest gear and it's operation.

So, I have to question anyone who sells gear who says they can also handle designing a room.

As far as gear vendors... I been dealing with Josh over at Audiolot. He's a member here. A real good source of info. Pretty unbiased, fair and if there's something he'd recommend that he doesn't carry... he'll tell you who does.

I'm openly biased toward recommending Rod Gervais for studio design. But there's also Russ Berger, Francis Manzella, John L Sayer, Walters-Storyk Design Group, and a few others that I'd recommend contacting as well.

Hello.
That's a proper link: http://www.proaudiosolutions.com/product-p/macpro-2q2.8ghz-apogee-logic.htm

I thought that on this forum I'll find many helpful people, who will reply to the asked questions, but it looks like I was wrong.
My questions were;

1. What do you think about computer from the link (OK, my fault, because the link was bad)
2. Are Apogee components good?
3. Recommendation:

- mixer
- monitor speakers
- midi controller

And you just attacked me talking about my stupidity (I can't put a link properly and all this s***). I didn't ask you about my physical studio infrastructure, neither did I ask you about how to record, because I know that already - I paid for studio-consulting in my country, so right know I do have a professional workshop and I will be having professional producers working in this studio. I will of course try to learn as much as possible and try to record on my own.
I would be very glad if you'd just try to answer my simple questions. If it's hard doing that without showing me that I don't know anything about studio and you know everything, then don't do it and I will look elsewhere.
Regards

Mateusz

Ps. They call me troll, but I'm not the kind of internet troll - it's just my nickname from childhood.

Mateusz,

Steady dude. YOU are the one who came here and posted a VERY oversimplified question. AND you should also note that I said that indeed, if you already had your studio infrastructure taken care of, then let's just talk about the gear. Or did you not read that part?

You appeared to be on the brink of being taken advantage of. EXCUSE ME for attempting to look out for your better interests. If that's not at least attempting to be helpful, then I don't know what the hell is.

Your command of the English language is quite good, and I actually figured you for a young naive 20 something with unreal expectations of what a studio really is. THAT is how your post came across. In your post or in your profile, it might have been good of you to indicate that you are not in the US. We would have understood that English is probably not a native language for you. This would have changed my entire understanding of your post... the company you're purchasing from is in Nashville, TN. Quite often young American's come here (and MANY other sites) with a few bucks in their pocket and get taken advantage of by these online retailers.

Also understand that there are often trolls who come here spaming and come here just to stir things up.

Again, it comes down to YOUR wording of YOUR post.

Hopefully, we've gotten this cleared up now, and can get on to your questions...

Not a bad bundle. The Apogee's are supposed to be perfectly acceptable converters. I just wonder if you shouldn't be looking at 2 of them. It's only 8 channels of I/O.

I price compared the Apogee 800's, Lynx Aurora-16's and the PT 192's. For the quality and price point, I think the Lynx Aurora-16 is a better value.

What are you looking for in the way of a mixer? Analog or a digital control worksurface?

Monitors... Focal TwinB6E's

I went with ProTools HD, so my midi is integrated, and from that aspect, someone else would have a better suggestion.

First. Coming on to this site and asking a fairly unfocused question AND not completely filling out the profile section doesnt allow anyone to sort of 'get to know you'......And then DEMANDING some sort of satisfaction that NO ONE HERE OWES YOU, is kind of asinine.

Its not that we're unfriendly, or not helpful, its like going to someones house for a dinner at which you have been invited for the first time and you know no one there...then you stand up right before anyone can introduce themselves and say something like you want dinner the way you want it and all be damned who dont comply.

Get it yet?

Second. No one said you didnt know anything about recording, but after reading your first post, it could be assumed that you arent a knowledgeable person and in dealing with this in this context, there are certain holes in the information that need to be filled.

Third. I understand your nickname is all yours and may be neato to use as as a profile name, but in this type of forum its pure death to even (unknowingly) assume the personna of a troll of any kind. It would help you to simply be "Mateusz" here to avoid any reference to one of the worst problems we encounter on these forums.

You can change this in your profile.

Lastly. Demanding anything will only get you exactly nowhere.

Theres a lot of help to be had here. Being a dick about it wont get you the answers you seek.

So, you wanna try again and this time approach it from the aspect of visiting someone elses house and having manners.

I'm just sitting here blinking my eyes stupifried.

I guess they didn't tell him about Apogee stuff at his school? I'd ask for my money back if I were you.

Great that he knows professional sound since he was trained in it. What did he train upon? Stone knives and bearskins? At least that's what they trained Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock with for Star Trek wasn't it?

Neve (Stone knife) Bearskins (API). Got milk?

Just returned from a session (oops, yes Dave, more Green Goblyn stuff)...

All tracks tonight through the Apogee AD8000 (guitars / vox / click / shaker - not a bad ADC if I do say so myself.

Are there better ADC's out there? Yes.
Are there worse out there? Yes.
Do I like the one that we have? Yes.
On the Vegas rig, do I like the MOTU 24 I/O we have? Yes.
On the PT rig, along with the Apogee do I like the 3 Digi 888/24's we also have? Yes.

What does this have to do with the OP's Original Post?

I don't know, but I did mention Apogee...
