I am look for a great sounding reverb and delay. I am using Mac (pro tools). Someone told me about Lexicon PCM 96 has an incredible sound, better than any software plug-INS or any other hard ware for the same price. If not, which plugins or hard ware has BETTER sound for the equivalent price. I PERFER hardware.I do not want to spend more than the price of PCM90.BUT I WANT TO GET AN EFFECT THAT IT IS GOING TO SOUND professional .

I need your input, if you heard the PCM96

Thank You

So you're going for surround??

Good Lexicons sound like good Lexicons. Inexpensive Lexicons sound like good imitations of good Lexicons. I heard some respected engineers say "why do they make their reverbs do that?" Because it's a Lexicon. Do you want that sound?

They all sound professional from that manufacturer. Your question is one of looking for the magic pill? Or, are you just interested in using this device for the front-end to your computer?

You have stars in your eyes. Yeah, like Grace Slick's contact lenses.

I own and use the PCM96 every day in the studio and I will tell you firsthand it's fantastic. I also own a PCM91 and a PCM81 and previously owned a 960L. The PCM96 is the new Lexicon flagship and the surround version is great because not only can you use it for surround purposes but you can also control two independent stereo engines from the front panel (on the non-surround version you have to use FW in order to obtain access to the second engine).

The other thing to consider is that it's not just a reverb. It also does delay, fx like pitch-shifting, test tones, pink/white noise, etc. It's hugely flexible and improvements are being made by Lexicon (i.e. more algorithms). You can control it over Ethernet or via FW and have full automation and recall for each session. The software only works on the Mac side for right now, although they are working on the PC side for a later date release.
