RODE NTK or AKG C214?

Well I have both.

On a cold winter's night a nice warm fire and a cat curled up beside you can be wonderful thing. When it comes to stick retrieval however my feline definitely lacks something but my dog never seems to tire of it, hours on end. Then again my dog could care less about the mouse in my basement where as my cat can't sleep knowing it is there. If I need protection my 85 lb dog is just the thing but.......

My house is odd... The cat gets in moods where 300 mice could probably over run the house and he couldn't care less... yet, he'll chase a car.

The dog is gonna call the mice a snack and go for it... and I think he's finally stopped chasing cars.

The cat barks. The dog whines.

The cat can whip the dog's butt when he sets his mind to it... which is usually quite often.

Funny to watch a Shepherd back away from a cat, yet try and take down a possum, raccoon or deer.

Very funny Max. Jay-Ri believe it or not allegorically you have your answer in the three above posts. Remember, they are all tools and function differently for each individual. No one should tell you buy this or buy that. You gotta decide, use your ears, use your budget, try it out on different things. If there was only one or two mics that worked so much better than others how long would the other companies stay in business? Is a Gretsch better than a Gibson better than a Paul Reed Smith?
Ask Brian Setzer (Gretsch), Angus Young (Gibson) or Santana (PRS) and,.... well, you get it right?

Yeah, I just sold PRS 8 Neve 3115's. I think he's going to have them all modified to all class A? It certainly won't make his recordings any better, until he learns to use what he has first. You learn how to ride a bicycle first before you ever drive a "crotchrocket" motorcycle. Even though he makes great guitars doesn't mean he knows how to make great recordings with what he has. Reinventing the wheel should only be done by Henry Ford and he's dead.

Reinventing myself & my business concepts. Look out everybody.

Jay-ri,

Seriously, I can't actually reply with direct hands-on experience with either mic, as I own neither one. But, see if you can rent them for a coupla' days, or find some guys locally who own them and see if they would be willing to bring em' over to try out.

You might find that neither one will give you what you're looking for. By the same token, you might find that it's a toss up on which one is better.

Good luck, and come back to this thread and update it on what you end up doing... and why you made your choice.

So many folks tout the NTK, I might actually have to snag one to try it out.
