I recently bought a pair of Behringer Truth B2031A Studio Reference monitors, and a pair of TRS 1/4" Balanced cables. I plugged one cable into each monitor's input, and the other ends of the two cables into the left and right main outputs on my Phonic mixer, which is connected to my iMac through firewire. I have the output settings on the mixer set from my computer directly to the speakers, so I have ruled out the mixer or the computer or the mixer being a problem.
My problem is that on one of the two monitors, it seemed as if the tweeter is not working, because sound was only coming from the woofer of that monitor. I muted the "bad" monitor and switched the "Mute Highs" switch on the "good" monitor and imitated the same exact sound of the "bad" monitor. I tried muting the highs on the bad monitor, but whether the mute was on or off, it made no difference whatsoever. If you could tell me what is going on here, that would be much appreciated. I'm just hoping the tweeter isn't blown.

Thanks for letting me know! I wish I could have known this before I dished out $300 + on defective monitors! haha. Then I guess I should turn this thread into a new question: What studio monitors would you recommend in the price range of $200-$500? I currently work out of a 12' x 11' room. I am looking into a relatively inexpensive studio desk as well. Plus, I think it's time to upgrade my entire simple rig! So, if you wouldn't mind, could you give me some suggestions on what gear I should buy? Here's what I have at the moment...

$500 is gonna be your bare minimum on monitor speakers, and NHT
$500 is gonna be your bare minimum on monitor speakers, and NHT M-00s get some good feedback, I've used Yamaha MSP-5s very happilly and also Dynaudio BM5As you might get second hand.
With regard to the rest of your gear, you are going to want to upgrade your microphones, mixer/interface, and headphones - all are semipro. Mics are gonna cost from $400 to $2000 and mixer/interface sky is the limit depending how you wanna split tasks up.
Quick priority - if you only 'recently' bought the B&hringers, take them back, and insist on a refund as they were sold to you in an already defective condition.
Take back your $320 and come back here with a post on what instruments you are going to record, budget, how many tracks at a time, etc etc, and just use the headphones while you search out a pair of monitors.
Just to be clear, your ideal plan would be to save up at least $800 and go for a set of Genelec 8030s or above. With the kit you have now, swapping the CADs for Shures, you'd be able to give your 'simple rig' several years of good life where you could learn a lot with it.
If you can only spent $500 on the monitors, OK. But try to get the money back on the 2031s if you can.

Hey bud... I'm sorry to inform you but when we all see the word Behringer, we think of crap. Most of the cost to make Behringer, and what you are paying for is in design concept, packaging, shipping, marketing, and dealer profit. I'm only guessing ... $1000 MAP Behringer item may actually only have $50 worth of low end knock off parts. Its the lowest of the scale in every aspect ( but looks) and to add, comes from a country that prides itself on reverse engineering and child exploitation. Behringer is plain junk. Sorry for the negative response that I'm sure you didn't need to hear.
Behringer is not Pro Audio Gear, its industrial pollution.
