Hello world,

Thanks for reading this post. I am having some really weird latency issues using Cubase 5. Am using a Tascam US-1641 soundcard with a Dell Studio XPS 16 (2.4 C2D, 3GB DDR3, 320GB HDD). Seven out of the 8 mic inputs on the Tascam are being used for Drum recording and the 9th input (Instrument) is being used for guitar.

Miraculously, even with guitar rig 4 loaded on 2-3 tracks, recording simultaneously, along with compression, reverb and gates on the drum inputs, I am getting ABSOLUTELY NO NOTICEABLE LATENCY. The problem is that there is significant latency on the recorded track. As in, when I am monitoring + recording, there is 0 latency, but as soon as I play the recorded file, I realise that there is some sort of "empty space" at the beginning of the track. So basically, if I want to loop, say the first 4 bars of the recording, I just cannot simply select the 1st four bars and just "duplicate" them, I need to adjust the left selector to just where the waveform begins and right selector to approximately where the loop ends and then cut the whole thing, or just loop it. I hope you get the picture.

Why would this be happening? I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Cubase, but to no avail. Am thinking of borrowing Sonar from a friend and seeing whether I get similar problems with it.

Also, there is another issue, sometimes, when I record something, I can monitor successfully (again without any latency) but there is nothing to be seen on the waveforms, and once I press stop, the entire track just gets deleted automatically. Obviously, the "Record" (Red) button is pressed. This issue usually resolves with a reboot, although it is pretty irritating.

Thanks a lot for reading this very long post and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you writing to your system drive? Have you made any adjustments to the ADC. Delay compensation is something you shouldn't have to mess with in Cubase. I have to ask as well, have you posted this on the forums at [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.cubase.n…"]cubase.net[/]="http://www.cubase.n…"]cubase.net[/]? I haven't used Cubase in about two years now. They would be the best people to ask since the mods there work for Steinberg.
