I have recorded a whole song on a Digi 001 Pro Tools LE system. I should also mention that this is my FIRST real recording and these recording are being done at my school. I've spent at least 100 or so hours on ONE SONG, but my problem started yesterday. After working all this time, my teacher comes in and says all my levels are to low. My faders are almost cranked to the max. I recorded with amps cranked and ran it through a SPirit board which I THOUGHT I set perfect levels for. I know I didn't screw up all my tracks. MY question is: IS THERE ANY WAY OF FIXING THIS WITHOUT STARTING OVER FROM SCRATCH( in which case I'll go into a murderous rampage).. Thanks in adavace.

Well , thats what learning is all about :)
If u make a mistake , remember what you did , and don't do it again!

Where are your levels peaking at?
Where were u checking your levels while tracking? On the screen or on the desk?
Were you using -10dBu outputs on the desk while having the input sensitivity on the 001 set to +4dBm?

If you are desperate (and i do stress "desperate"), noramlise every track. Dont normalise everything to 0dB!! If you do this , then you wont have any headroom left for your plugins. you'll start getting clipping if you add EQ.normalise to -5dB as a starting point i guess.

The good side of this is that you'll have lots of level. The bad side is that any noise on the track will also get louder. Oh yes , and you'll have to rebalance your mix because the tracks will now be at different levels realative to each other.

Please remember that this is not a quick fix for any time you record at a low level!! Its nowhere near as good as getting the right level to tape (disk) when you are recording.

Good luck and have fun.

Absolutely unnecessary!

Did you have fun doing it?
It's your first real recording, hundreds will follow. Let's say you broke the rules on purpose. :D

"Of course I know the levels are low, professor. It's all about dynamics...the MUSIC!"

Where do you go to school?

PS: You could always shmaster it. Just kidding. Please don't. Well, do what you want. :p
