Cheers

:) sure does.

I might be a bit biased though, one of the very few highlights of my rather short pro audio career was to mix monitors for a just formed 4 cello metal band back in the late 90's.
They were on the bill by the name of The Jailhouse Band.
The bands real name was of course Apocalyptica.

They were one act among a dozen or so "traditional" Finnish metal bands on that night, and quite frankly we were worried about feedback and how well the audience would take it, but when Seek And Destroy intro blasted through, everyone was sold.
I have never since seen such a response for an unknown band.

Sadly IMO they have abandoned their original concept by bringing drums and other instruments onto the mix, but I guess that was inevitable.

Thanks for the walk on the memory lane :).

Regards
Sam

Hey Chris, thanks for posting this, more people need to see it! I saw the "Thunderstruck" video for the first time last week and immediately went to YouTube to view more of this duo. This is true passion poured into every note, consuming each player completely... music at its best!
I missed RO the couple of days it was down... glad we're back!

Aren't they something! I am so behind this duo. They are going to bridge the gap back to musicians. I can't imagine being an aspiring young musician ( anyone for that matter) and not being totally moved by these guys.

We are back. Thanks for the words! The site is going to undergo a few more updates so there could be more outages but not like what just happened.

I think I'm going to be a lone voice. I take my hat off to them for their musical prowess, but I absolutely HATED it. I'm old. I'm not trendy, and I'm firmly a traditionalist. So I know my views are not exactly contemporary. I play quite a few instruments at the kind of level where people give me money - so on stage, or in an orchestra pit, or in a studio. I'm nowhere near these guys level of ability, BUT electric guitars should stick with 6 strings, bass guitars can have extra strings, but shouldn't play melodies or chords and cellos should not need plugging in a treating with distortion and effects. If you want to play AC/DC, buy a guitar. If you want to play Beethoven or Chopin, then a piano works better than an accordion. I listened to the guys doing their stuff in these youtube links, and they're brilliant - but I'd rather have heard the music played on the original instruments. In the sun going down on me Elton track, they played what cellos should play - I liked that bit. I can imagine what they did with Saturday Night's Alright.

I admire them, but hate the concept. I can really (as an ex-cellist a long time ago) appreciate their technique, but I really hate the result. Dinosaur, I am!

Paul, the traditions didn't become traditions until ensconced by inflexibility. Ravel, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Barber, Elgar wouldn't have existed if classical music didn't evolve. Heck, all of England was considered a wasteland of native classical music between Byrd (Handel was Saxon after all) and Elgar because of inflexibility. Certainly in North America and increasingly even in the bastion of Europe, if the young people do NOT get more involved the glorification of the society of dead white guys will become a shrinking entity. Not that I care for all of it either.
